Lokdevta Veer Teja Ji Maharaj
Promise given to Bhashak Nag
According to religious stories, once Tejaji had gone to his in-laws house to take his sister Pemal. When he reached his sister, he came to know that a dacoit named Mena had looted the cows from Pemal’s in-laws house. Hearing this, Tejaji gets angry and goes with his companion to rescue the cows. Then on the way, a snake named Bhashak comes and stands in front of his horse.
It is believed that that snake wanted to bite Veer Tejaji. Seeing Bhashak standing on the way, Teja ji promised him that O snake Bhashak, leave my path right now, because I am going to rescue my sister’s cows from the Mena dacoit. I promise that I will come here after freeing the cows and then bite me. But leave my way now.
Veer Teja Symbol of Commitment
After this Bhashak left the path of Tejaji. After this he had a fierce battle with the Mena dacoit. In his rage, he defeated the dacoit and freed all the cows from his clutches and sent them to his sister’s house. But due to Tejaji breaking his promise, Bhashak went to the snake’s anthill in a bleeding state on his horse.
When Bhashak saw Tejaji in an injured state, he was surprised. He told Teja that your entire body is injured, so where should I bite? Then Veer Teja took out his tongue and said, ‘O Bhashak Naag, my tongue is completely safe. You put your bite here and bite me.
Tejadashami festival
After this, Bhashak climbs over the legs of Tejaji’s horse and bites his tongue. There is a religious belief that after seeing the commitment of Bhashak Nag Veer Tejaji, he blesses him that if any creature on earth is bitten by a snake, then just by tying a thread in your name, it will not be affected by the poison. This is the reason why Bhadrap Shukla Dashami is also celebrated as Tejadashami.
