Delhi-NCR Braces for Cold Wave Amid Heavy Snowfall in Northern India

As of December 30, 2024, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures following recent rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi and surrounding areas, warning residents of intensified cold conditions.

In the northern regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, heavy snowfall has been reported, contributing to the cold wave sweeping across North India. The IMD forecasts that the minimum temperature in Delhi will hover around 9°C, with cold and dry conditions expected to persist throughout the week. Additionally, dense fog is anticipated during late-night and early-morning hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan on December 29 and 30, potentially impacting visibility and transportation.

In Uttar Pradesh, several districts are on alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The state has already witnessed rainfall, leading to a further decline in temperatures. Residents are advised to exercise caution during these adverse weather conditions.

The IMD’s forecast indicates that the cold wave conditions are likely to persist in Delhi-NCR and other parts of North India in the coming days. Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the severe cold
