Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has set a new milestone by achieving the highest rating points for an Indian bowler in the ICC Test rankings. After a stellar performance in Melbourne, where he claimed nine wickets in the match, Bumrah has cemented his position at the top of the ICC men’s Test bowling rankings with an impressive 907 rating points. This achievement places him ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and bolsters his nominations for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year Award and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year Award for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
Tied 17th on the All-Time List with Derek Underwood
Bumrah is now tied for 17th on the all-time Test bowling rankings list alongside former England spinner Derek Underwood. England’s legendary fast bowlers Sydney Barnes (932 points) and George Lohman (931 points) top this list, followed by Imran Khan (922) and Muttiah Muralitharan (920).
Ravindra Jadeja Leads All-Rounder Rankings
Ravindra Jadeja remains at the top of the ICC all-rounder rankings with 405 points. Meanwhile, Australian captain Pat Cummins is third in the Test bowling rankings with 837 points, trailing Josh Hazlewood, who holds second place with 843 points. Cummins also achieved a career-best third position in the all-rounder rankings with 283 points, an improvement from his fifth-place finish in August 2019.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Achieves Career-Best Test Batting Rank
Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has climbed to fourth in the Test batting rankings with a career-best 854 rating points after scoring 84 and 82 in his recent match. Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has also reached a career-best sixth position following his knock of 84 runs, while Australia’s Steve Smith advanced to seventh after scoring 140.
Notable Bowling Performances
South Africa’s Marco Jansen reached a career-best fifth position with 800 rating points after taking six wickets for 52 runs in the second innings. Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas re-entered the rankings at 23rd after a seven-wicket haul, while Naseem Shah rose to 33rd and Dan Patterson climbed to 46th. Australia’s Scott Boland and Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett also saw significant improvements in their rankings.
Other Batting Ranking Highlights
South Africa’s Aiden Markram moved up eight spots to 16th after scoring 89 and 37 in Centurion, while India’s Nitish Kumar Reddy advanced 20 places to 53rd following his century at number eight. Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams, with an innings of 154, rose to 19th, earning the highest rating for a Zimbabwean batsman since Brendan Taylor in 2014. Afghanistan’s Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi also improved, reaching 52nd and 57th positions, respectively.
ICC T20 Rankings Updates
In the ICC T20 rankings, Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka climbed to sixth among batsmen, while New Zealand bowlers Mitchell Santner and Matheesa Pathirana improved their standings after strong performances in the ongoing T20 series against Sri Lanka, where New Zealand leads 2-0.
