Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh died on Thursday night at AIIMS, Delhi. He became unconscious at his home, after which he was admitted to the hospital. He breathed his last at 9.51 pm. He was the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.
Political Life of Dr. Manmohan Singh
Manmohan Singh entered politics in the year 1991 when on June 21, P.V. He was made the Finance Minister in Narasimha Rao’s government. At that time the country was facing a serious economic crisis. P.V. Along with Narasimha Rao, he had cleared the way for foreign investment. While being the Finance Minister, he implemented the policies of economic liberalization in the country, which encouraged foreign investment and connected India to the world market.

He was elected Rajya Sabha MP from Assam for the first time in 1991. He made many reforms to improve the economy of the country, which improved the economy of India. He was also the leader of the opposition from 1998 to 2004. However, after the victory of the Congress Party in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he took oath as the 14th Prime Minister. He held the post of Prime Minister in UPA-1 and 2. Manmohan Singh took oath as Prime Minister for the first time on 22 May 2004 and for the second time on 22 May 2009.
Life of Dr. Manmohan Singh as the Governor of Reserve Bank
Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Governor of the Reserve Bank from 1976 to 1980. From April 1980 to September 1982, he was Member Secretary of the Planning Commission. From September 1982 to January 1985, he once again served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank. From January 1985 to July 1987, he held the post of Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission.
After this he was the Secretary General of the South Commission in Geneva from 1987 to 1990. He also held the positions of Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the University Grants Commission.
Early Life of Dr. Manmohan Singh
Dr. Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in Gah in western Punjab, which is now part of Pakistan. His father’s name was Gurmukh Singh and mother’s name was Amrit Kaur. Manmohan Singh married Gursharan Kaur in the year 1958. He also has three daughters, named Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Punjab University in 1952 and 1954. He was a university topper in MA Economics. He completed his Economics Tripos from Cambridge University in 1957. After this, he did D.Phil in Economics from Oxford University in the year 1962. Got the degree.
He taught at Punjab University and Delhi School of Economics. In the year 1971, he was appointed Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade. From 1972 to 1976, he was the Chief Economic Advisor in the Finance Ministry.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was honored with many awards. Padma Vibhushan in 1987, Euro Money Award for Finance Minister in 1993, Asia Money Award for Finance Minister in 1993 and 1994 and Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award of the Indian Science Congress in 1995.
