On 12 October 1970, the night before the incident came to light, Shahnaz’s husband Salim tried to contact Mustafa. He made several phone calls but the phone was continuously busy. After this Salim tried to contact Zaidi through his friends but Zaidi did not respond to him either. Actually Salim was searching for his wife Shehnaaz because she had not come home. When she did not return home even after much of the night, thinking that she would be with Zaidi, he contacted Zaidi to find out, but due to not getting any response, he informed the Karachi police about his wife’s disappearance. informed of.
Police were stunned when the room opened
After giving information to the police, Karachi police reached Mustafa Zaidi’s apartment. Here an attempt was made to open the door of his room, several calls were made to Zaidi but there was no response from inside. After this the police tried to break the door. As soon as the police broke the door, they were shocked to see the sight inside. Actually, his dead body was lying on the bed of Zaidi’s room. There was blood coming out from his nose and mouth but there were no injury marks on his body. When the police searched the room, his telephone was hanging down with the help of a wire, hence his phone was getting engaged. As soon as the policemen came out of the room to investigate, Shahnaz Gul was lying unconscious outside. Seeing this, even the police were shocked because even the police was aware of the relationship between the two.
The book’s author Tooba Masood Khan told in an interview to Pakistani media that Shahnaz was immediately taken to Jinnah Hospital, along with her husband Salim. Here, regarding Zaidi’s body, the doctors gave a statement that he died 18-24 hours before the body was found.
Mustafa Zaidi was the District Commissioner of Lahore some time ago and was also a famous poet of Pakistan, hence this case became quite high-profile. Secondly, Shehnaz Gul was also found unconscious in his room, which added more complications to the case. Shehnaaz and Mustafa had a love affair despite being married. Mustafa was a resident of Allahabad, India. He started taking interest in poetry at an early age. He was a Marxist and had progressive thinking.

Mustafa Zaidi and Shehnaz Gul met in a Sindh club in Karachi. Zaidi liked Shahnaz in the very first meeting. He knew that Shahnaz was married, and so was Zaidi himself, but Zaidi wanted to give fruit to his love. Gradually they started meeting in parties and picnics. Then gradually these meetings started happening in private. Pakistani media, quoting book author Tooba Masood Khan, reported that some people believed that Mustafa Zaidi was murdered, while others said that Zaidi committed suicide. You will be surprised to know that the mystery of Mustafa Zaidi’s death is still unsolved. Apart from Mustafa and Shahnaz, no one knows what happened in this closed room on 12 October 1970.
According to writer Tooba, when she did research on this case, questions were raised whether the Pakistani government did not have any records related to Zaidi’s case, that too when it was a high profile case. Neither about his dismissal in the corruption case nor about his death. The government not having any record of them raises many questions. But the situation is that neither the government nor the bureaucracy wants to talk about this scandal.
