Central Railway PRO Swapnil Neela said the incident occurred due to a glitch in the signaling and telecommunication system between the Down Fast Line and the Fifth Line at Diva Junction. Trains going towards Konkan from Diva Junction reach Panvel station on regular route, but Vande Bharat reached Kalyan.

CSMT-Madgaon Vande Bharat Express, launched in June 2023, departs from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal, Mumbai at 5:25 am and reaches Madgaon, Goa at 1:10 pm. Due to losing its way on Monday, it reached Margao at around 2:40 pm.

The Mumbai-Goa (Madgaon) Vande Bharat Express runs six days a week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. It stops at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Khed, Ratnagiri, Kankavli and Thivim during its journey.
